Mestalla brimming with emotions running high
Relive the emotional events that took place in the run-up to Valencia CF-Real Betis to pay tribute to the victims and those affected by the tragic flash floods
Coming off the bench just eight minutes into the game, Maxi Gómez had huge impact on the 3-3 draw with Getafe CF. The Uruguayan replaced Kevin Gameiro when his fellow striker pulled up injured, and would score his first brace for Valencia CF in the opening half of the match.
Two goals in the space of 4 minutes turned the scoreline on its head, from 0-1 to 2-1, as Gómez struck with a bicycle kick and a back post header just past the half hour mark.
Speaking after the game, he spoke about the eventual 3-3 draw at Mestalla.
"We went out there looking for the win, but it wasn't to be and we go home annoyed. I'm happy about the goals, but angry because we didn't win," he told reporters pitchside.
“We played good football but dropped two points in this one. Getafe CF played a lot of long balls. We fought to the end. We have to be a little more focused and pick ourselves up, keeping on fighting and turning our attention to the game at the weekend. I hope we can take the three points against Athletic."
Gómez has now scored three goals this season. His brace was his fifth since arriving in LaLiga.
